I used to feel so alone in the city. All those gazillions of people and then me, on the outside. Because how do you meet a new person? I was very stunned by this for many years. And then I realized, you just say, “Hi.” They may ignore you. Or you may marry them. And that possibility is worth that one word.

Last night I dreamt that…
I was growing a second row of teeth on my bottom jaw. I went to the hospital but couldn’t speak properly because of all the extra teeth. A man saw me and screamed.

Last night I did not dream, I had a nightmare…
I dreamt that I was having a fight with an old housemate because she and a girl I didn’t know wouldn’t get out of my bed. They said they didn’t have a bed and it wasn’t fair. I was getting really angry and decided to have a cigarette. As I lit the cigarette, the lighter flame licked my eye.
The flame burnt, I touched my eye and it felt so sore and strange. I ran to a mirror and saw that it looked like acid has been splashed around my eye and it started to disfigure and melt. I began to scream and my boyfriend tried to come after me but I wouldn’t let him see my face. All the skin on my face started to blister and become really thin like tissue paper, stretching and swelling.
I was screaming as my face burned and blistered more and more, till it was about to explode. Just as it was about to erupt into a hideous explosion of blisters and burnt skin, surely killing me; I woke.
